OTTAWA, Ill. – Working to maintain Illinois’ natural resources enjoyed by residents statewide, State Rep. Amy “Murri” Briel, D-Ottawa, is applauding the Rebuild Illinois Capital Plan, which recently announced $33.8 million to improve Starved Rock State Park in Oglesby.

“This new funding for Starved Rock State Park means so much to me and my communities. As someone who worked closely with this issue for years with my predecessor, former state Rep. Lance Yednock, I am thrilled that our advocacy has paid off and we can deliver this critical boost to one of Illinois’ most sought-after natural beauties,” said Briel. “Families and individuals statewide enjoy Starved Rock — this pet-friendly, family-oriented oasis offers relaxation and adventure for so many to get outside and enjoy. With new funding to improve beaten-down pathways, modernizing park facilities, and a new wastewater system to protect public health, I am more than excited to see how these improvements bring even more visitors to our local getaway.”

The $33.8 million will be used to upgrade the park’s heavily used paths, construct a new wastewater system, and replace deteriorating facilities. Briel, who serves on the Agriculture & Conservation and Energy & Environment committees this legislative session, advocates for policy solutions focused on economic and development challenges unique to rural areas, as well as protecting natural resources and addressing environmental concerns around Illinois’ rural communities.
