CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Committed to advancing local services and improving infrastructure in her communities, State Rep. Carol Ammons, D-Urbana, is celebrating recent funding for Champaign County’s Apollo Industrial Park made possible by Ammons’ support for Governor Pritzker’s Regional Site Readiness Program.
“I’m pleased that one of Champaign County’s busiest business hubs is receiving grant money, which will be dedicated to finetuning Apollo Industrial Park’s wastewater system,” said Ammons. “When we signal to businesses that we home top-notch warehouse functionality, we give them the assurance that they’ll thrive here — leading to job growth and tangible economic benefits for Champaign-Urbana residents.”
The Champaign County Economic Development Corporation will use the $150,000 award to study wastewater engineering for 301 acres at Apollo Industrial Park, which is home to distribution hubs of over 26 businesses, including FedEx and Caterpillar. Wastewater engineering involves designing and constructing water treatment and sewage systems to remove pollutants from water before it is returned to streams, rivers, or used for irrigation.
Ammons voted YES for House Bill 4582 and House Bill 3551 in the last legislative session, which authorized the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) to implement the Regional Site Readiness Program for infrastructure improvements to prepare areas around Illinois for future development.
“As Vice Chair of the Economic Opportunity & Equity Committee, I look forward to continuing productive conversations around how we can improve Illinois’ workforce through smart initiatives that uplift the businesses and entrepreneurs that are central in spurring a healthy economy. My advocacy remains rooted in my community’s needs, and I’m excited to see how this award improves Champaign County’s premier industrial park.”
