SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Continuing her work to slash prescription drug costs and hold deceptive insurers accountable, state Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, has been appointed Chair of the House Healthcare Affordability and Access Committee for the second year in a row to lead critical conversations around healthcare reform.

“As Chair, I see the opportunity to address the urgent statewide issues of healthcare affordability and access while tailoring smart solutions to meet the specific needs of individual communities,” said Manley. “Whether it’s expanding rural telehealth services or reducing prescription drug costs for seniors, we have the ability as committee members to enact policies that reflect the lived experiences of our families.”

The House Healthcare Affordability and Access Committee addresses one of the most pressing issues for Illinois residents and families — ensuring that healthcare remains affordable and accessible during a time when costs are soaring and families are struggling with strained household budgets. The committee is central to reducing financial barriers, addressing systemic inequities, and improving health outcomes for all Illinoisians.

Last year, Manley led multiple efforts in this committee to help families manage rising costs, including cracking down on pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) to make prescription drugs more affordable, capping out-of-pocket healthcare expenses, and expanding protections for caregivers.

“This committee has one mission, and that’s to connect big-picture reforms with real, tangible impact for families and communities. Our members have extensive experience in smart policy-making on both sides of the aisle,” said Manley. “This year, I’ll prioritize initiatives that continue to slash through-the-roof costs and provide real relief for those with chronic and temporary conditions — because no matter where you live or what you’re experiencing, our residents deserve the best care possible at a price they can afford.”
