OTTAWA, Ill. – State Rep. Amy “Murri” Briel, D-Ottawa, will prioritize cutting costs for families and improving critical services for rural neighborhoods as a member of several House committees tasked to oversee policy solutions for some of the most pressing issues statewide.

“Serving on these committees allows me to focus on solutions that directly impact the lives of rural families in my district,” said Briel. “Our communities deserve the same access to safe infrastructure, quality health services, affordable education, and support for farmers and veterans as anyone living in a larger city. These seats give me the platform to make that happen.”

Briel will serve on the Agriculture & Conservation committee, focusing on economic challenges unique to rural areas. Similarly, her seat on the Energy & Environment Committee will allow her to advocate for rural energy needs while working to protect natural resources and address environmental concerns that directly impact rural communities.

Briel will also be vital in ensuring small-town governments have the resources they need to support their communities in her role on the Counties & Townships Committee. As a member of the Transportation: Regulations, Roads & Bridges Committee, Briel aims to rebuild local infrastructure in vulnerable communities by ensuring roads and other transportation networks are safe and reliable for all residents, including rural businesses and emergency services. Additionally, as a member of the Human Services Committee, Briel will be a staunch advocate for policy that expands access to critical health care and social programs in areas that often face a shortage of providers and resources.

Recognizing the importance of education, Briel will serve on the Appropriations – Higher Education Committee to push for the equitable funding of small-town universities and community colleges. Her work on the Veterans’ Affairs Committee will focus on strengthening programs that help rural veterans transition into civilian life and receive the medical and mental health support they deserve.

“Families in rural areas are the backbone of Illinois, yet too often, their challenges are overlooked,” said Briel. “My committee assignments reflect the values and priorities of the families I represent. Whether it’s fighting for safer roads and better schools or ensuring farmers and our veterans have the support they’ve well earned, these new roles allow me to take action on the issues that matter most to me and my community.”
