SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Lisa Davis, D-Chicago, began her first term as a member of the Illinois House of Representative with a strong commitment to lead and support efforts to advance economic development in underserved areas, continue to right the wrongs of our criminal justice system and ensure that Illinois remains a state where the voices of hardworking people are heard loud and clear.

“Today, I am proud to stand alongside my esteemed colleagues as a member of the General Assembly and eager to begin doing the work of the people,” said Davis. “During these tough times, I know just how hard it can be to provide for a family comfortably. As I begin my journey, making sure that our families can afford to not just survive but thrive is my number one focus.”

On Wednesday afternoon, Davis took her first-ever oath of office to become a member of the 104th General Assembly. As an attorney, mom and wife to a Chicago firefighter, Davis brings a wealth of experiences and knowledge to her new role. To stimulate economic prosperity, especially in underinvested communities, Davis is interested in innovative, forward-thinking solutions to make sure everyone in Illinois has opportunity regardless of where they live. Davis will also work to further empower Illinois’ working people so they feel supported and heard, whether they’re speaking up about hazardous working conditions or organizing to form a union.

“As Washington and the country prepare to endure under an extremist administration run by a felonious chief executive, I vow to do everything I can to ensure that the effects are mitigated in Illinois and life continues as usual,” said Davis. “I will continue to protect our fundamental rights, stand up for marginalized communities, empower the economic engine of Illinois to grow, and work to create a fairer criminal justice system for all.”

Davis represents the 32nd House District, which is comprised of communities on Chicago’s South Side and its Southwest suburbs.
