SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Rick Ryan, D-Evergreen Park, was sworn in to his first term in the Illinois House of Representatives at noon today, and quickly announced his priorities for his coming years.
“The responsibility of standing for our community in Springfield is a privilege I don’t take lightly. I’m eager to start building a stronger future for my neighbors by fulfilling the goals we all share,” Ryan said. “While there is a lot of work to do, this session, my focus will be strengthening our unions, keeping violent criminals off our streets, cutting costs of lifesaving healthcare, and ensuring our community remains a great place to live.”
Ryan was born and raised in Oak Lawn in a strong union household. He attended DePaul University and graduated on the Dean’s list in 1989 before graduating from John Marshall Law School in 1992.
“When unions are strong, communities thrive, and I’ll fight to keep our unions growing,” Ryan said. “Measures promoting union membership and preventing big businesses from chipping away union association are going to be a major priority for me.”
While serving his first term, Ryan will fight for public safety, healthcare accessibility, union protections and a great future for his community. Other areas, including combatting high costs and lowering property tax burdens on moderate-income Illinoisans are also going to play a big role.
“Ensuring both safety and good health for every member of our community is also extremely important. Keeping violent crime off our streets and cutting costs of lifesaving medical care go hand-in-hand, and are key to providing the tools for better lives for everyone I represent,” Ryan said. “I owe it to the people of Illinois to join with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass the laws they need to prosper. I’m committed to that principal, and ready to get to work.”
