SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – With the General Assembly beginning a new term Wednesday, state Rep. Dave Vella, D-Rockford, is looking to lower costs for working families and build on recent economic moves aimed at bringing jobs to the region.
“When I talk with residents, it’s clear that they’re looking to Springfield to help lower costs and drive economic development for this area,” Vella said. “We have to pursue a comprehensive approach that not only looks at immediate concerns, but also ways to bring investment to our community for years to come.”
Vella recently led passage of a bipartisan incentive plan to make Illinois a national leader in quantum computing, encouraging outside investment and job creation for the cutting-edge technology. His measure also extended the state’s Research and Development Credit, which secured incentives for battery storage facilities and helps to push for more manufacturing in Illinois.
“Our region has an incredible manufacturing heritage, and for it to thrive in the 21st Century we need to attract investment with emerging technologies,” Vella said. “Springfield can play an important role, and we need to make it clear that we’re open for business.”
Vella is also pushing for improved access to health care, stronger public safety and early childhood opportunities for families.
“We need to support our children in learning from early childhood through college, and make sure they grow up in a safer community that responsibly targets violence,” Vella said. “There are challenges on the horizon for this state, but if we focus on issues that help working families, we can deliver real results for those we represent. I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve this community, and I’m excited to begin this new term.”
