SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, issued this statement following her inauguration to another term representing her community in Springfield:

“I’m eager to begin the coming session so I can make progress on the things that matter to our community. While there is a wide range of work to be done, I’ll be focusing on creating affordable childcare opportunities and improving early childhood education, cracking down on harmful pollution coming from landfills, and putting a stop to identity theft.

“Childcare and early childhood education are the foundation of a good school experience leading to a good-paying, sustainable job and economic security. As in recent years, I will take a leadership role in guiding Illinois into a future with universal affordable childcare for every kid who needs it. This is how we build a better future for Illinois from the ground up.

“Communities across Illinois, including my own, have had to deal with serious public health hazards as a result of poorly maintained and poorly located landfills. It’s past time that we ensure that we are disposing of waste products is a way that won’t impact nearby homes. I’ll be pursuing measures to ensure that the danger of garbage fumes isn’t a problem again.

“I’ve heard from too many people in my community about the problems they’ve had to face due to identity theft. We live in a world where our personal data is often out of our control and in the hands of companies who don’t keep it properly secure. This poses enormous risk for identity theft and fraud, and I will be taking steps to stopping crimes like that from hurting innocent people.”
