SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — On Wednesday afternoon, state Rep. Sharon Chung, D-Bloomington, was sworn into office, continuing her service to her community and her state. Chung issued the following statement:

“I am honored to serve our community again in Springfield as we work to build a healthier and brighter future for Central Illinoisans. During the previous General Assembly, I secured a $21.7 million grant to increase access to healthcare for kids and expand the types of medicine offered to them. Working with my colleagues in the Senate, I was also pleased to pass legislation that expanded health insurance coverage for medically necessary hearing devices and services to all individuals. I look forward to continuing my fight to increase and expand access to healthcare for all Illinoisans, regardless of their incomes.”

“Along with healthcare, the environment is key to a flourishing future for this community and it will remain a priority for me. With the recent opening of major solar technology production plants in Bloomington, the economic potential for embracing clean energy is undeniable. Furthermore, last year, to preserve public health from the danger of hazardous waste, I helped pass a bill that will require sellers, potential sellers and distributors of covered batteries or battery-containing products to participate in a battery stewardship program that ensures safe disposal and keeps them out of our invaluable environment.”

“I will continue my work to uplift future farmers by raising the threshold for inheritance taxes for family farms and expanding who is considered an heir to include extended family, keeping farms in the family for generations to come. These farms are the cornerstone of our economy and a key part of our cultural fabric, and I will fight to protect them.”

“There is much work to do in the upcoming session and I will continue my efforts to ensure positive change on the issues affecting our community and Illinoisans across the state.”
