SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Jaime Andrade, D-Chicago, returned to Springfield to be sworn in for a new term in the Illinois General Assembly on Wednesday and issued the following statement:

“With the start of a new General Assembly and New Year, we have the unique opportunity to reset and revitalize our commitments to the kitchen table issues facing every Illinoisan in every city, village and community across our state. Our class of colleagues features both returning members and many new, fresh faces who will surely help us craft thoughtful solutions to address record high grocery and rent bills, unattainable college education and a tight job market.

“My commitment to securing our streets from violent, vehicular and property crime remains unchanged and as firm as ever. We cannot allow carjacking, wrongful death and destruction of property from high-speed motorists and other crimes to go unaddressed. I’m proud of my work to tirelessly meet these issues with smart policies like banning high-tech carjacking tools and securing neighborhood schools and parks in high-speed intersections, and more.

“I plan to move legislation forward to better safeguard our construction workers in highspeed highway work zones. Too many workers are killed in high-speed collisions, because we haven’t done enough to reduce speeds. This has to, and will, change.

“Public safety will not be secured without tackling the cost of living issues that everyone in Illinois faces. Last year’s budget included vital cost-saving measures that allowed us to get serious about property tax relief, return more dollars to people’s pockets and local governments. Continuing to serve my community in Springfield has been a great honor, and I look forward to getting back to work.”
