CHICAGO – $7.5 million dollars in new funding secured by state Rep. Yolonda Morris, D-Chicago, will flow to Lawndale Christian Health Center to renovate its main facility and bolster its service capabilities.
“Health starts at home and in the community. That’s why community-based, patient-centered care centers like Lawndale Christian are so critical to communities like ours,” said Morris. “Facilities like this often serve working families and others who may be struggling to make ends meet.”
Through the state’s ambitious Healthcare Transformation Capital Investment Grant Program, over 13 health care centers received $200 million in grants to make improvements to their facilities and capital. On the city’s West Side, Lawndale Christian Health Center received the grant to renovate the Mirador building by adding a fitness center, patient care facility and fresh food café. This recent investment is just one part of a broader plan to revitalize healthcare across the state to ensure it is adequate, affordable and accessible for all regardless of where they live.
“As a health care professional of more than 20 years, I know that our local community facilities provide a safe space for those in our community to receive great care right in their own neighborhoods,” said Morris. “No one should have to go out of their way just to receive adequate care, and I am proud of this critical investment that puts Illinois one step closer to ensuring that everyone has access to great health care.”
