BELLEVILLE, Ill. – With Thanksgiving approaching, state Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, and state Sen. Christopher Belt, D-Swansea, are teaming up with Meridian to provide free turkeys to residents at an event on Monday, Nov. 25 from 9 a.m. until supplies run out at the Downtown Belleville YMCA, located at 200 S. Illinois St. in Belleville.
“We’re excited to again offer free turkeys for local families this Thanksgiving,” Hoffman said. “It’s always a wonderful time to come together as friends and family to enjoy a turkey meal as a centerpiece. As we kick off the holiday season, I’m thankful for Sen. Belt, the YMCA, Meridian and everyone else who has helped to make this event available for the community.”
Supplies are limited, with frozen turkeys expected to be available for the first 250 attendees. Due to the possibility of traffic congestion, participants are asked to not arrive before the start of the event. After parking, attendees will line up in the YMCA parking lot that runs along S. High St. To ensure more families receive a turkey, there will be a limit of one turkey per participant.
The event is fully outside, and attendees should not go inside the YMCA building.
