SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Recognizing his advocacy for seniors and successful passage of a personal needs allowance increase for supportive living residents, state Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, was recently honored by the Affordable Assisted Living Coalition with its Appreciation of Achievement Award.

“I appreciate this recognition, and I’m thankful for the strong advocacy of Cambridge House residents who helped us get the personal needs allowance increase across the finish line,” Hoffman said. “Let’s continue to work together in the interest of uplifting and improving the lives of every resident. I look forward to many more years of strong partnership.”

Hoffman and state Sen. Christopher Belt, D-Swansea, were honored by the Affordable Assisted Living Coalition at their annual reception at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library in Springfield.

After hearing from local residents, the two lawmakers spearheaded legislative efforts to pass a personal needs allowance increase. Hoffman initially introduced legislation that would effectively raise the figure for qualifying supportive living facility residents from $90 to $120 (House Bill 4364). This increase to $120 for qualifying supportive living facility residents was later included in a Medicaid omnibus (Senate Bill 3268) later signed into law.
