ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. — State Rep. Mary Beth Canty, D-Arlington Heights, received a 100% scorecard from the Illinois Environmental Council (IEC) for helping lead the fight to support the environment, tackle climate change and promote clean energy.

“Keeping our air clear and our water clean, promoting the growth of clean energy technologies, combatting the effects of climate change or cutting back on waste creation; these are environmentally friendly steps that will build a stronger future for our community, and I was proud to fight for them this year,” Canty said. “The long-term economic and public health benefits of these measures should make them a high priority for every community in Illinois.”

The Illinois Environmental Council gave Canty a 100% score on their 2024 legislative scorecard as a result of her comprehensive voting record on pro-environmental issues. These laws include measures to cut back on single-use plastic waste, study the quality of air for Illinois students, create a new framework for carbon capture methods and promote advances in green technology.

“The consequences of an unclean environment are not addressed nearly enough,” Canty said. “Researchers have shown diseases like childhood asthma -to name just one example- have been directly linked to unclean air. Neglecting our air quality would make me complicit in creating a major public health crisis, something I promise never to engage in as long as I represent this community in Springfield.”
