GURNEE, Ill. – State Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, received a 100% scorecard from the Illinois Environmental Council (IEC) for helping lead the fight to support the environment, tackle climate change and promote clean energy.

“Environmental policy touches a wide range of issues with impacts far beyond the direct consequences on our natural world,” Mason said. “Allowing waste to seep into our groundwater will present us with serious infrastructure challenges. Permitting pollutants to cloud our air will exacerbate lung health problems that so many Illinois kids face. Neglecting clean energy will put us behind in the national race to master emerging technologies and scare off potential business investments. I thank the IEC for their work, and I will continue to join them in the fight to keep Illinois pointed in the right direction environmentally, economically and in terms of public health.”

The Illinois Environmental Council gave Mason a 100% score on their 2024 legislative scorecard as a result of her comprehensive voting record on pro-environmental issues. These laws include measures to cut back on single-use plastic waste, study the quality of air for Illinois students, create a new framework for carbon capture methods and promote advances in green technology.

“A future powered by green energy will yield new high-paying job opportunities, combat the onset of climate change, and help keep our air clear and our water drinkable. As a lawmaker, and as a mother, I will always fight to secure that future for this community,” Mason said. “The numerous benefits pursuing these policies can offer should never be limited to simply the direct environmental improvements, but the across-the-board positives for years to come.”
