O’FALLON, Ill. – State Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, recently met with residents of Cambridge House of O’Fallon to discuss the recent increase in the monthly personal needs allowance for qualifying supporting living residents from $90 to $120 per month and to thank them for their continued advocacy.

“People across the state are going to have a better quality of life thanks in part to the advocacy from residents here at Cambridge House of O’Fallon,” Hoffman said. “Increasing the personal needs allowance is going to help many older adults with small purchases, such as haircuts, clothing or something for the grandkids. Hearing directly from impacted older adults made a difference in getting this passed, and is a testament to engaging lawmakers on these kinds of issues.”

Hoffman was joined at the visit by state Sen. Christopher Belt, D-Swansea. Together they discussed this year’s legislative work in Springfield, focusing on the personal needs allowance increase that Hoffman has been a leading advocate for. Hoffman this year spearheaded legislation that would effectively raise the figure for qualifying supportive living facility residents from $90 to $120 (House Bill 4364). This increase to $120 for qualifying supportive living facility residents was later included in a Medicaid omnibus (Senate Bill 3268) recently signed into law.
