AURORA, Ill. — State Rep. Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, received a 100% scorecard from the Illinois Environmental Council (IEC) for helping lead the fight to support the environment, tackle climate change and promote clean energy.
“Growing up in Aurora, I was lucky enough to have a beautiful natural world to enjoy, and the next generation of Aurorans deserve to have that experience as well. Simply saddling them with a growing epidemic of environmental problems is deeply unfair; they should have our strongest efforts to combat climate change. The fight for pro-environmental policies is as simple as that,” Hernandez said. “I appreciate the recognition from the IEC, an organization that has joined me on initiatives to combat the spread of plastic waste, promote new clean energy solutions, and improve air and water quality in Illinois.”
The Illinois Environmental Council gave Hernandez a 100% score on their 2024 legislative scorecard as a result of her comprehensive voting record on pro-environmental issues. These laws include measures to cut back on single-use plastic waste, study the quality of air for Illinois students, create a new framework for carbon capture methods and promote advances in green technology.
“Every generation has a responsibility to leave a better world for the next, and ultimately that is the basis of my approach as a lawmaker,” Hernandez said. “Whether it’s growing economic development, a more equitable criminal justice system or improved environmental policies, we owe future Aurorans a better place to live.”
