NAPERVILLE, Ill. – State Rep. Janet Yang Rohr, D-Naperville, lauded the release of $1.5 million in firearm enforcement grants by the Illinois State Police (ISP) to crack down on individuals in possession of an illegal firearm, further bolstering her commitment to keeping families safe and dangerous weapons out of the hands of offenders.

“Local law enforcement agencies need stronger state and federal support if we are to make our streets safer and keep lethal weapons out of the hands of those who present a threat to the public,” Yang Rohr said. “This funding will continue ISP’s and the Naperville Police Department’s efforts to keep offenders in compliance with the laws we know to work. Our state budgetary work addressed many different solutions to the same problem: keeping people safe. This increase in funding will go a long way in moving Illinois into a better, more secure direction.”

The $1.5 million firearm enforcement grant is dedicated to the communities across the state committed to conducting enforcement checks and removing firearms from the homes of those subject to Firearm Restraining or Clear and Present Danger Orders. The Naperville Police Department will receive $36,689 in funding to support these efforts.

Yang Rohr worked tirelessly with her colleagues and law enforcement to ensure that our next state budget addresses Illinois’ public safety needs. The FY 25 budget includes $148 million to ongoing Reimagine Public Safety initiatives that support community-based organizations, equip local agencies with the tools they need, and uplift victims and their families.
