CICERO, Ill. – State Rep. Elizabeth ‘Lisa’ Hernandez, D-Cicero, is working to make college more affordable and make financial aid more accessible by encouraging students and families to
take advantage of new online tools available through the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC).

“I’ve made it my mission to make a college degree attainable for more Illinois students, but that’s complicated by a complex student aid process and high costs for tuition, textbooks and
more,” Hernandez said. “However, ISAC and I are committed to overcoming these challenges. I hope students in my community will take advantage of these new ISAC tools and MAP grants
available to them. There are plenty of resources, workshops and guides out there, and I plan to be in the community helping students use them and get into college.”

Hernandez is highlighting free, one-on-one online support that ISAC is offering for students and families navigating the FAFSA application process. Members of the ISACorps—who are recent college graduates who have been through the college planning process and are trained to assist others—are available to provide guidance and answer questions in English and Spanish.

Hernandez has worked tirelessly for years to make college more affordable for low-income and minority students. She recently unveiled a lottery scratch-off ticket which dedicates its revenue to causes such as the United Negro College Fund and the Illinois Dream Fund.
