Scherer Statement on Murder of Sonya Massey

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Sue Scherer released the following statement:

“The murder of Sonya Massey is an unacceptable tragedy, the likes of which we have seen far too often. She was a daughter, mother, and an integral part of her community—and her life mattered.

“While nothing can fill the void left in the hearts of Sonya Massey’s family, friends, and community, we must pursue justice in her name. Recent reforms have brought greater independence to the investigation resulting in criminal charges against the officer involved, and it is my sincere hope that they also lead to greater accountability.”
