BELLEVILLE, Ill. – State Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, state Sen. Christopher Belt, D-Swansea, and St. Clair County Chairman Mark Kern will join local officials Tuesday morning to highlight a $5 million state investment to support construction of a new racetrack at the Belle-Clair Fairgrounds.
Details of the plan will be discussed at a press conference Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the fairgrounds.
“Our fairgrounds, and all the events that come with it, remain a tremendous asset for our local economy,” Hoffman said. “With this funding and redevelopment plan, we’re supporting jobs and modernizing an important attraction that will bring visitors to our community for years to come. I appreciate the state and local support for this project, and look forward to the positive benefits it will have for our area’s residents.”
“The future for the Belle-Clair Fairgrounds is looking bright, and upgrading the racetrack has been one of the most anticipated projects,” Belt said. “Rep. Hoffman and I were able to secure $5 million to help this project become a reality, and we are thrilled to see all the positive outcomes it will yield down the road.”
“Through the hard work of our state officials to obtain this necessary funding, St. Clair County Fairgrounds Park will become a first-class facility that will serve our community for generations,” Kern said.
Included in this year’s budget, the $5 million investment for a new racetrack will complement ongoing upgrades to modernize the Belle-Clair Fairgrounds property. The new track will be located southeast of the original track, and the goal is to open in late 2025.
