PEORIA, Ill. – With the Illinois State Police (ISP) offering increased pay and benefits for new troopers, state Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth, D-Peoria, is encouraging interested individuals to take advantage and apply with ISP by May 1.
“Illinois State Police troopers do important work each and every day, serving communities and helping residents in difficult situations,” Gordon-Booth said. “To maintain a high level of service, it’s critical that we support and strengthen recruitment efforts for quality candidates. For those who believe they have what it takes, this is a great career opportunity.”
As part of a comprehensive approach to public safety, Gordon-Booth has supported increased funding to support ISP operations and recruitment. To be competitive and attract qualified candidates, ISP is now offering just over $90,000 in starting compensation for new troopers following graduation from the Illinois State Police Academy. To qualify, individuals must be 21 years old, or be 20 and have completed an associate degree or 60 credits hours at a regionally accredited college or university. Applicants cannot have been convicted of a felony, must possess a valid driver’s license at time of application and must be willing to accept an assignment anywhere in the state.
Additional requirements and an online application link can be viewed at https://www.illinoistrooper.com/. The upcoming cadet application deadline is May 1 for classes tentatively scheduled to begin in October.
