SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Laura Faver Dias, D-Grayslake, is advancing a measure to require full health insurance coverage on any hormone therapy for menopause deemed medically necessary.

“Menopause can be a serious medical challenge for many people, and truly debilitating for others,” Faver Dias said.  “If a licensed physician deems hormone therapy an appropriate measure for the safety of their patient, then that should be covered by health insurance without exception.”

Faver Dias filed House Bill 5295 to ensure that all people going through menopause have sufficient medical care, regardless of their income. The bill is the result of constituent conversations, and backed by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Planned Parenthood IL and the Illinois State Medical Society.

“Illinois is taking major steps to expand and secure quality reproductive health care, and this measure is an essential step in that effort,” Faver Dias said. “Caring for people going through menopause is not optional. It is an inevitable step for millions of Illinoisans, one which cannot be ignored.”
