CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – State Rep. Carol Ammons, D-Urbana, issued the following statement in response to recent news that Walgreens will be adding Mifepristone, a life-saving reproductive health care medication, to some Illinois stores:

“As states across the nation face challenges posed by anti-abortion extremists who seek to limit women’s access to reproductive healthcare, it is important to remember that these attacks are not just about abortion. They are about control, power, and denial of women’s agency over their own bodies. We must resist these attempts to curtail our rights and fight for the autonomy of all women,” said Ammons. “I am proud to stand alongside my colleagues who have fought bravely to ensure that bodily autonomy is a fundamental right here in Illinois — and it will remain one. Without access to critical medication such as Mifepristone, women’s health and lives are put at risk, which is unacceptable. Expanding and sustaining women’s reproductive healthcare is not just a matter of policy; it is a matter of justice and equality.”
