GRAYSLAKE, Ill. – State Rep. Laura Faver Dias, D-Grayslake, recently introduced a measure to make prescription inhalers more affordable and lower the financial burden of medical care on Illinois families.

“For people with respiratory conditions, children especially, inhalers are an essential medical tool. The high cost of inhalers puts an unfair financial burden on working families for what should be a low-cost healthcare measure,” Faver Dias said. “I’m proud to join a nationwide movement to guarantee everyone can afford inhalers.”

Faver Dias introduced House Bill 4504, which caps the cost of medically vital inhalers at $50 per month. Lowering the cost of inhalers is a nationwide movement, with similar legislation moving forward in North Carolina, Minnesota, New Jersey and Nebraska. This legislation is backed by the American Lung Association and the Illinois Pharmacists Association.

“This is just a first step towards healthcare equity for working families,” Faver Dias said. “It’s time to strip away barriers to essential healthcare that people face simply due to income. We can’t continue to allow costs to spiral out of control.”
