ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. — State Rep. Mary Beth Canty, D- Arlington Heights, is applauding recent funding to the Arlington Heights community from the Park and Recreational Facility Construction Act (PARC).

“I’m pleased that the community of Arlington Heights has been awarded multi-million dollar funding to revamp our outdoor spaces,” said Canty. “Public outdoor spaces are vital to promoting wellness in people of all ages, whether that be enjoying a nice walk with family members or playing on the playground with friends, everyone can benefit from spending time outdoors.”

Canty announced that the Arlington Heights Park District will be awarded $2.8 million to renovate Recreation Park, including the interior of a building to construct a bathhouse. Plus, the project involves demolishing existing pools to build an Olympic-sized lap pool and children’s play area. PARC is part of the bipartisan Rebuild Illinois capital improvement program made possible through the fiscally and socially responsible budget Canty supported. The funding provides up to 90% of project costs to help improve recreational buildings used by the public.

“This funding from the PARC grant program is an amazing opportunity provided by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). There are a handful of health benefits to being outside — improved sleep, better breathing, and more motivation to exercise. By utilizing this funding, the community of Arlington Heights will see greater access to recreational opportunities.”
