WASHINGTON – State Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, visited the White House earlier this month to meet with U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and other White House officials to discuss the impact of federal investment in Illinois through the Biden-Harris Administration.
“Federal investment in our area infrastructure is critical for economic development and supporting working families,” Hoffman said. “President Biden and his administration understand this, and it was great to discuss the importance of our partnership and how we can move the Metro East forward.”
Local projects that were highlighted include the new I-270 Chain of Rocks Bridge, which is a more than $500 million state and federal development, as well as the approximately $150 million MetroLink extension to MidAmerica Airport. Additional infrastructure improvements around MidAmerica Airport helped spur Boeing’s $200 million investment to build U.S. Navy aircraft and create 300 jobs.
In his visit, Hoffman joined lawmakers from Illinois and Indiana as part of the White House’s Communities in Action: Building a Better America series. This forum invites leaders from around the country to discuss Biden-Harris Administration projects that are impacting their community and what opportunities exist to improve people’s lives.
Under the leadership of the Biden-Harris Administration, Illinois has seen significant federal resources committed – including more than $10 billion for transportation projects, $1.5 billion for highspeed internet development and $751 million for clean water improvements.
