WAUKEGAN, Ill. — State Rep. Rita Mayfield, D-Waukegan, is promoting awareness of an upcoming series of workshops entitled “Building Blocks of Success” being offered by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) focused on helping new and existing Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs). Workshops are currently scheduled between Dec. 5 and Dec. 21.
“One of the best ways to fight inequality is to make sure that everyone is able to take advantage of the same opportunities,” Mayfield said. “The DBE program is a great way for people from historically disadvantaged communities to break barriers and get into the world of government contracting. If that sounds like something you’re interested in, give these workshops some thought.”
Full information is available through Eventbrite at bit.ly/DBEworkshops. Advance registration is required. Building Blocks of Success is slated to continue through April 2024.
IDOT administers the DBE program, which provides minorities, women and eligible small businesses with opportunities to participate in federally and state funded highway, transit and airport contracts. Anyone interested in becoming a certified DBE or in learning about other IDOT resources can visit www.idot.illinois.gov/dbe.
