ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. — State Rep. Mary Beth Canty, D- Arlington Heights, is working for middle-class tax relief by backing legislation creating a new state tax credit that would provide significant tax relief for Illinois families with children or other dependents.
“The Child Tax Credit is a crucial stepping stone in providing significant relief for families with children, in all corners of the state, who will financially benefit from this important piece of legislation I stand strongly behind,” Canty said.
Canty is sponsoring House Bill 3950, which creates a state-level Child Tax Credit of up to $700 per qualified child or dependent of the taxpayer. The bill defines those who are 17 years of age or younger or those who are physically or mentally incapable of caring for themselves as qualified dependents.
“Middle-class families are the ones who need tax relief the most, and I’m committed to prioritizing their needs in Springfield,” said Canty. “This piece of legislation, in many ways, offers a transformative opportunity for families with children and others they must care for. The passage of this bill will ensure that families across the state can provide comfortably for their loved ones.”
