CHICAGO – State Rep. Kam Buckner, D-Chicago, issued this statement following the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals’ decision to uphold Illinois’ assault weapons ban passed earlier this year:

“It is encouraging to see the judiciary once again stand against the epidemic of gun violence by upholding the assault weapons ban I was proud to help enshrine into law earlier this year. The tragic toll inflicted on my community and communities across this state must end, and this law is a vital piece of the solution.

“With no regard for public safety, radical pro-gun activists are coming after gun laws designed to keep weapons of war out of the hands of violent criminals. Sadly, I doubt they will stop now. However, this decision sends the message once again: Illinois is committed to keeping people safe, not pleasing special interests.”
