BERWYN, Ill. – State Rep. Abdelnasser Rashid, D-Bridgeview, is headed to Washington, DC today after being invited to the White House to discuss issues related to “Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence.”

“I am honored to have received an invitation to the White House to discuss the future and regulation of AI,” said Rashid. “In an era where artificial intelligence is reshaping our world, our duty as lawmakers is clear: we must prioritize the safety and well-being of our citizens by mitigating the risks that AI presents. The public is counting on us to enact safeguards that ensure their security, privacy, and fundamental rights in this rapidly evolving landscape.”

Rashid was appointed to serve as co-chair of the State of Illinois’ new artificial intelligence (AI) task force. The task force consists of legislators, technology experts, educators and other stakeholders to provide informed policy recommendations on AI to the legislature.

Across the country, state and federal lawmakers are debating how to address the impact of AI technologies, including on our economy and the workforce, civil liberties, misinformation, cybersecurity, and so much more.

“With the emergence and proliferation of AI, it is imperative that the State of Illinois protect our residents from harm while capturing its benefits,” said Rashid. “We must take proactive steps toward understanding and responding to the impact of AI both in Illinois and across the country.”

Rashid received his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University with a minor in Computer Science and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
