CHICAGO – State Rep. Eva-Dina Delgado, D-Chicago, is thrilled to spotlight a special opportunity to celebrate educators uplifting Northwest Side students through the Illinois State Board of Education’s Those Who Excel and Teacher of the Year awards.

“The students in my community have some of the best educators in Illinois, and this award is just one way we can show them appreciation for their dedication to building a brighter future for each of their students,” Delgado said. “Every educator’s journey is a tale of selflessness. I urge our community to think of that one teacher who touched their heart and nominate them.”

Every year, the ISBE welcomes nominations for the “Those Who Excel” and “Teacher of the Year” awards, celebrating the phenomenal contributions of educators and support staff. Nominees are eligible if they fall under one of the following categories: teachers, early career educators, administrators, student support personnel, educational service personnel, community volunteers, and teams. Anyone can nominate an outstanding educator for these awards, but those nominated must complete an application for consideration. Applications for these awards are due Oct. 15.  More information on the application process is available here

Delgado has fought for education services from cradle to career in the recent legislative session. She supported an off-hours childcare program to expand options for families with non-traditional schedules (House Bill 1571) and access to full-day kindergarten (House Bill 2396).

“When other states defund public education, cut teacher salaries and make it harder for educators to do their job, Illinois chooses to uplift and empower,” Delgado said. “This is a simple, but meaningful way to give back to the teachers who keep our communities alive and well.”
