CHICAGO – Continuing his commitment to honoring the hard work and dedication of educators making an impact in the community, state Rep. Jaime Andrade Jr., D-Chicago, is encouraging families to nominate an outstanding teacher for the State Board of Education’s (ISBE) ‘Teacher of the Year’ and ‘Those Who Excel’ Awards.
“Our teachers play an important role in preparing our children for the future and building stronger communities. The least we can do is show them how much we appreciate them and all that they do,” Andrade said. “These applications are open now, so I highly encourage families to reflect on an educator who has impacted them and submit their nomination.”
ISBE opens applications for the ‘Those Who Excel’ and ‘Teacher of the Year’ awards every year to recognize the incredible work of educators and support staff. Nominees are eligible if they fall under one of the following categories: teachers, early career educators, administrators, student support personnel, educational service personnel, community volunteers, and teams.
Anyone can nominate an outstanding educator for these awards, but those nominated must complete an application for consideration. Applications for these awards are due Oct. 15. More information on the application process is available here.
“While I will continue to champion education and teachers’ issues in my work in Springfield, as a member of the community, I want to make sure we go above and beyond passing legislation to support our educators,” Andrade said. “If you’re unsure if an educator is qualified for this award, make sure to check the website for details. Let’s show our teachers how much they mean to us.”
