ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. — State Rep. Mary Beth Canty, D-Arlington Heights, is holding a fall art contest for local elementary school students. Winners will be chosen by celebrity judges and displayed in “Mary Beth’s Rotating Art Museum” in Canty’s district and Springfield offices, as well as featured on social media.

“I’m excited to invite kids enrolled in Kindergarten through 8th grade in our community to submit art to help decorate my new offices,” Canty said. “This is a great opportunity for kids to get involved in local government and show off their artistic talents to everyone who comes through my offices – from other members of our community to state officials.”

The theme for all submissions is “hometown neighbors.” Two winners will be chosen for age groups Kindergarten through 2nd grade, 3rd grade through 5th, and 6th grade through 8th. Only one entry per student will be accepted. Each entry should be done on one sheet of 8.5×11 paper. The submissions must include the artist’s name, school, grade and guardian contact information. The contest is for constituents of District 54 only.

Art submissions should be brought to 12 E. Northwest Highway in Arlington Heights between Sept. 5 and Oct. 6. The office is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Friday, 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. Winners will be contacted the week of Oct. 31.
