Friday: Ford to Join Community Leaders in ‘Protect the Children from Violence’ Press Conference

CHICAGO – Continuing his efforts against violence, state Rep. La Shawn K. Ford, D-Chicago, will join members of area sororities, fraternities, elected officials and faith leaders for a “Protect the Children from Violence” press conference this Friday, Aug. 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the Phi Beta Sigma House, located at 4941 S. Martin Luther King Dr. in Chicago.

“With the Bud Billiken Parade this weekend, we’re reminded of the need to create a better future for our children and of the commitment required to increase their opportunities,” Ford said. “It’s critical that we share our community’s voice as we pursue greater civility, harmony and cooperation amongst all of us.”

Attendees will discuss local efforts to address the challenges of violence influenced by social, economic, cultural and psychological factors. Ford will also highlight his work to address the root causes of violence, and of the need to work together through civility to develop intervention strategies that can create safer and more peaceful communities.
