CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – State Rep. Carol Ammons, D-Urbana, came out opposing Friday’s SCOTUS ruling rejecting President Biden’s student loan forgiveness program, which would’ve delivered $20,000 in student loan repayment relief for millions of borrowers with outstanding debt.

“I am extremely disappointed in the reckless disregard for the needs of our college students by the Supreme Court the past two days,” Ammons said. “President Biden’s loan forgiveness problem was not only widely favored but also effective at addressing our university educated students saddled with out of control student loans. As the state representative for UIUC, someone deeply committed to serving our younger generation and preparing them for the future, this SCOTUS decision was an egregious step backwards. I will keep fighting to make Illinois the best state to get an education. Today’s decision will not stop me, my colleagues or our state from demanding a better future for our young people.”
