Rep. Buckner Statement Following SCOTUS Decision to Bar Affirmative Action in College Admissions

CHICAGO – State Rep. Kam Buckner, D-Chicago, issued this statement following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision blocking efforts to expand equity and opportunity in college admissions:

“The Supreme Court’s misguided decision to roll back decades of progress towards educational equity for Black and Brown students is tragic. Opportunity for a better future is the foundation that we build strong communities on. Opportunity for achievement will truly combat poverty and crime and other basic problems underserved communities have been living with for years. Now, our Supreme Court, which should be committed to justice and equality, has chosen to gut opportunity for millions of Americans, and it’s appalling. I pledge to do all I can as a lawmaker to help those harmed by this decision overcome obstacles that now once again stand in their way.”
