AURORA, Ill. – State Rep. Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, issued the following statement after joining local law enforcement for a training session to operate drones under the new “Drones as First Responders” bill, which will expand law enforcement capabilities to use drones to promote public safety:

“Just a few short years ago, following the shooting at the Henry Pratt Factory, Aurora felt the impact of what can happen when law enforcement don’t have the tools they need to keep us safe. Today, we are taking steps to correct that tragic oversite. Safe, non-invasive drone usage by certified law enforcement pilots will be a tremendous boon to public safety throughout Illinois.”
