WARRENVILLE, IL, June 21, 2023 – The City’s Route 59 Multi-Use Paths Project got a $200,000 boost from the State after Representative Janet Yang Rohr requested funds for the project in the 2024 budget, which Gov. Pritzker signed June 7. Residents will enjoy safe, ADA-accessible paths to businesses and existing bikeways and trails along Route 59 from Batavia Road to Continental Drive and Meadow Avenue when work is complete.

This is a high priority project due to safety issues along this stretch of road that include:

  •   speeding cars
  • traffic
  • accidents that injure or kill pedestrians and bicyclists
  • the current lack of accessibility

Work on this project will:

  • provide ADA pedestrian and bicycle access along Route 59 from Batavia to Continental Drive and Meadow Avenue
  • install handicapped accessible ramps
  • replace existing sidewalk
  • improve drainage with new storm sewers
  • relocate signs and utility poles

“We have for some time recognized the need for several safety and access improvements in this very active part of our community. I welcome the opportunity to make these improvements that will serve our citizens well,” said Warrenville Mayor David Brummel.

“From installing accessibility ramps to making sure everyone in our community has access to the Route 59 area, to improving drainage and important weather infrastructure, and more, this state partnership will go far in allowing an important project to further connect our community,” Yang Rohr said. “These vital improvements will help people get where they’re going, manage stormwater, and make our community more bikeable and walkable.”

The project became part of the City’s Bikeway Implementation Plan in 2016. The City then applied for a grant and received federal Surface Transportation Program funding that covers 75% of construction and engineering costs. The $200,000 from the State will reduce the City’s share of engineering and construction costs for this necessary safety improvement.

The City of Warrenville, located approximately 30 miles west of the City of Chicago, offers its 13,553 residents small-town charm nestled in the center the dynamic and nationally recognized research and development corridor that runs through DuPage County, Illinois. Learn more at warrenville.il.us
