JOLIET, Ill. – State Rep. Larry Walsh, Jr., D-Elwood, issued the following statement regarding the state’s new fiscally and socially responsible budget:

“This budget is proof that Illinois can continue to strengthen our financial footing while continuing to compassionately serve the citizens of this state. We have eliminated debt, reduced pension liabilities, and rebuilt our rainy day fund. Decisions like these helped the state receive eight credit rating upgrades.

“We accomplish this while also making smart investments in our communities and our working families. We’re strengthening education at every level by expanding early childhood education, providing $350 million in new funding for classroom education, and making college more affordable. We are injecting more than $500 million in new funds to support our healthcare infrastructure. This budget makes smart investments in the most critical areas that affect everyday Illinoisans.

“There’s more work to be done, and I’m going to keep working to uplift our working families.”
