SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, issued the following statement Saturday after passing a fiscally and socially responsible state budget making major investments in schools, expanding access to early childhood education for all, and building up Central Illinois communities:

“The state’s new budget is truly balanced in every way. It is financially sound and will continue effort to rebuild Illinois’ fiscal house. And it does this while investing in critical services to strengthen Central Illinois communities. This budget makes a historic investment in classroom education, expands access to childcare, and creates enriching opportunities for our youngest learners so families in every community can put their children on the path to success.

“And this budget puts the state back to work for our communities. We’re making investments in safer, stronger communities – including those often left behind. The state is restoring important investment in our cities, giving local leaders the tools they need to get property taxes under control and invest in growth. There’s more work to be done, and I look forward to continuing the work on behalf of all of our families.”
