CHICAGO – As part of his efforts to uplift area youth, state Rep. La Shawn K. Ford, D-Chicago, will join By The Hand Club For Kids’ annual Bike Across Chicago fundraiser this Saturday – a 50-mile bicycle ride across Chicago’s south and west sides to raise money for youth after school support on the city’s south and west sides.

“Not only is this an opportunity to view the rich diversity of our city and its neighborhoods, it’s also a great time to support a wonderful organization that is helping a lot of people,” Ford said. “The money raised from this event is going to directly help kids who can really benefit from after school care. We’re always talking about kids needing something to do, By The Hand continues to step up and provide the space and programs needed.”

Saturday’s participants will gather in Cabrini Green at 418 W. Oak St. at 8 a.m. for a multi-stop journey through Chicago’s neighborhoods, including Austin and Englewood. To ensure a safe journey, participants will be escorted by the Cook County Sheriff.

By The Hand Club For Kids is a holistic after school program that works with youth in Chicago’s most underserved neighborhoods. The organization assists with academic and literacy support, developing kids’ social-emotional skills and providing a safe and engaging space for students after school and throughout the summer months.
