SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Sharon Chung, D-Bloomington, issued this statement following the end of the House’s spring legislative session in Springfield:
“My first several months in Springfield have brought a lot of progress for our community. I helped craft a balanced budget that allocates substantial new funding for numerous major priorities. Among those were extensive childcare and early childhood education initiatives that will give every kid a stable foundation to their education and afford working parents much-deserved assistance. Increased funding for higher education and MAP grants will help continue to improve Illniois colleges and universities while removing financial barriers to entry.
“I was also proud to pass legislation to secure the right to fair pay for kids taking part in online content creation run by adults. Our labor laws are here to protect all workers and my measure will modernize those laws to create new protections for kids who may be getting taken advantage of. Youth performers have earned fair compensation, and my law will make sure they get it.
“Thousands of Illinoisans living without being able to hear deserve hearing aids. The legislation I recently pass expands coverage for those aids will help return that ability to countless people. It was a privilege to step in and help restore such a vital gift.”
