SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – A fiscally and socially responsible budget, bold clean energy initiatives, and smart tech policy that protects consumers are among the critical pieces of legislation state Rep. Jaime Andrade Jr., D-Chicago worked to pass during the spring legislative session.
“Being an advocate for my community in Springfield has been an honor, especially as we continue to pass legislation that fully funds public education, and makes our state’s financial future more stable,” Andrade said. “By focusing on education from kindergarten through college, our budget not only makes Illinois the premier state for sending our children to school, it also helps build stronger neighborhoods and prepares our young people for a bright future. We backed smart early childhood education and childcare initiatives to give parents with irregular work schedules access to the same services that those with a 9 to 5 schedule have, increased MAP and scholarship opportunities for DREAMers, and put nearly $400 million back into classrooms.”
Andrade worked to pass needed reforms to the state’s toughest problems. He passed reformed to protect families who use streaming services from unnecessary fees (House Bill 3808), help school districts move towards clean energy school bus fleets (House Bill 2235), suspend CTA privileges for those who routinely harass and endanger passengers (House Bill 1342) and work with law enforcement to recover stolen vehicles easier, using cutting edge technology with House Bill 2245.
“My mission as state representative has always been to cut rising costs for working families, prepare Illinois for the upcoming technological innovations, and protect the basic services we all rely on,” Andrade said. “By stopping large corporations from passing on costs to hardworking people, secure safe and user-friendly transit access, and fight for the issues that matter most, Springfield continues to do the people’s work, and I look forward to moving Illinois forward.”
