SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – On Wednesday, state Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, greeted a group of elementary school students from Decatur’s Maroa-Forsyth Grade School with a warm Springfield welcome and an educational tour of the Capitol.
“I’m so grateful to be able to host some of the young people from the school where I taught at,” said Scherer. “I’m talking to the future leaders of our country, and I’m happy to have the opportunity to do it.”
Scherer, who was a teacher for over 30 years before joining the legislator, lectured the students the importance of citizenship and serving one’s community. Scherer plans to visit even more students after the General Assembly adjourns this spring.
“Seeing and speaking with these young, bright future leaders was one of the best parts of this session so far,” said Scherer. “The students at Maroa-Forsyth are welcome anytime, I’m happy to host them in these great halls.”
