CHICAGO – State Rep. Sonya M. Harper, D-Chicago, is inviting community members to participate in the long-running tradition of a cleanup and community celebration in Greater Englewood, to be held May 6 at 10 a.m. at 6138 S. Wood St. in Englewood. The cleanup will last until noon, after which a celebration is planned at Imagine Englewood, 6407 S. Honore St. until 2 p.m.

“Greater Englewood Unity Day has been a tradition ten years and counting,” Harper said. “I hope to see all our neighbors come out and help clean up and beautify our wonderful community.”

This year’s focus will be to give a makeover to Wood Street Meet & Greet Garden, the site of the initial planned meet-up. Harper helped to start the Unity Day cleanup tradition years ago before being elected to the General Assembly.

“Those who call Greater Englewood home know what a great place this is,” Harper said. “But it takes investment by the community to keep it that way. I’ll be there, and I hope that many of you will drop by.”
