FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. – State Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, and state Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, are inviting area residents to bring old bills, receipts and other personal-identifying documents to be securely disposed of at a free community shred day, scheduled for Saturday, April 15 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Rec Complex of Fairview Heights, located at 9950 Bunkum Rd. in Fairview Heights.

“It’s spring-cleaning time, and I encourage residents to take advantage of this opportunity to clear out old paperwork they want safely destroyed,” Hoffman said. “It’s a convenient way to remove clutter while also helping to protect yourself from identity theft. We’ll take drop offs until the truck is filled, and so I encourage people to visit us early.”

Residents are asked to remove all paper clips, staples and other bindings. All items will be accepted until capacity, although residents are encouraged to limit themselves to two boxes per car. Cardboard boxes cannot be left at the event, and it is asked that only residents participate – not commercial businesses.
