CHICAGO – State Representative Ann Williams, D-Chicago, has been named the 2023-2024 Illinois State Lead for the National Conference of Environmental Legislators. In this role, Williams will serve as Illinois’ liaison to the leading national organization of state legislators focused on environmental issues, clean energy policy and growing the green economy.

Williams is currently Chair of the House Energy & Environment Committee and is a former Chair of the Illinois Green Caucus. She served as Chief House sponsor of the Clean Energy Jobs Act, which set the stage for passage of the nation-leading Climate & Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) in 2021.
As a State Lead, Williams will lead within the Caucus by coordinating in-state events and growing NCEL’s network of legislators to assist in advancing environmental issues in state legislatures throughout the nation.
“I am thrilled to have been chosen for this important role,” said Williams. “NCEL has always been a ‘go to’ for legislators in Illinois and beyond when it comes to advancing innovative environmental legislation and developing strategies to combat the climate crisis.”
Created by and for state legislators, the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that organizes over 1,200 environmentally-committed state legislators from all 50 states and both major parties. NCEL provides venues and opportunities for lawmakers to share ideas and collaborate on environmental priorities.
“NCEL’s State Leads foster crucial collaboration on environmental policy,” said Dylan McDowell, Acting Executive Director of NCEL. “We are grateful to have legislative leaders committed to uplifting and advancing NCEL’s work in their state, introducing lawmakers to emerging environmental issues, and facilitating collaboration with legislators across the country.”
