SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, is working to ensure workers affected by sudden layoffs at Decatur’s Akorn Pharmaceuticals have access to support and job training resources.
“Akorn chose to cut ties with 400 employees in a Zoom meeting, and didn’t give the legal notice those workers and our community are owed,” said Scherer. “My office, along with state and federal employment agencies are working to fill the gap, and ensure everyone affected by Akorn’s decision are protected, cared for, and helped to return to the workforce.”
Scherer is encouraging residents affected by Akorn’s layoffs to begin accessing available resources by completing the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO)’s questionnaire at https://www.illinoisworknet.com/LayoffRecovery/Pages/LayoffDetail.aspx?layoffid=Akorn. Additional resources including information on job fairs, unemployment insurance, and job training can also be accessed through the Department’s website.
Residents seeking assistance with state or federal services can also contact Scherer’s full-time constituent service office at 217-877-9636 or StateRepSue@gmail.com.
