CHICAGO – State Rep. Lilian Jiménez, D-Chicago, issued the following statement regarding Governor J.B. Pritzker’s annual Budget & State of the State Address:
“Illinois is ready for a bold and forward-thinking investment in education, healthcare and in the future of our communities,” Jiménez said. “While we’ve taken massive steps forward to rebuild the financial stability of our state budget from several credit upgrades, eliminating debt and backlogged payments across the board and securing pensions, more must be done. The governor and I share many budget and legislative priorities, and I look forward to working towards a budget that builds on our strengths and shores up underfunded initiatives.
“Housing assistance that controls out of control rents and mortgage bills, comprehensive inflation mitigation and consistent investment in services that provide invaluable resources to undocumented immigrants are going to be priorities I press for as we continue our budget negotiations. I can assure you that my community has a fighter, advocate and someone who will consider every line and provision in our state budget to make sure we are getting the most out of it.”
